First, be informed about the laws where your business is located and make sure that everyone involved knows what those pay guidelines might be. You don’t want a negative situation because someone was under the impression they were going to receive one type of check but ended up receiving another type. Make sure this scenario never occurs due to a lack of communication. Second, have a clear company policy on how payments should be made once employment ends. If there isn’t one yet, then create one immediately.

Stay Compliant With Final Paycheck Rules

Finally, make sure you have a legal contract with any employee that may cause problems down the road. If this isn’t an option, then it’s recommended that you make a verbal one. Although verbal contracts are rarely followed through on by either party if there is a problem in the future, at least this way both parties will have a clear understanding of how things should work and what to expect from each other.
